Why Don't Most Scientists Show Interest In Researching Paranormal Activities?

We all enjoyed hearing creepy and disturbing stories from our grandparents, relatives and friends. Even though it was scary, it was fun and thrilling. And the most scary part of the story was the ending.....and no I'm not talking about the part where they jump-scare you, but the part where they say "Based on a true story."

Ever wondered whether the story was really true or just a made up lie by them to have a long lasting impact of the story? I'm sure most of you did. And you might have even searched on the internet for proofs, but didn't find much help, as the internet is also filled with scammers who want you to believe their explanations regarding paranormal encounters. This lack of trustable information creates a huge dilemma among people, leading to superstitious beliefs and fear of the unknown.

Now the most reasonable step to take would be reading scientific papers about abnormal events, written by a trustable author who has been researching in this field for a long time. And guess what? You'll barely find any trustable source as the authors themselves have no clue what they are talking about. So coming back to the main question, why aren't scientists interested to research paranormal activities? Let's find out.

Whenever scientists work/research on a specific concept, they ensure that there is already some established base/facts through which they can research their way further. The problem with Haunted experiences is that they are usually experienced by people who already believe in such things, and they end up overexaggerating it.

Yes that's right, most of the horror stories were formed just because 'PEOPLE ARE TOO LAZY TO LOGICALLY EXPLAIN IT', as telling "I saw a ghost" is easier than telling "I saw my bedroom curtains which resembled a  ghost." This is another reason why scientists barely meet such incidents, because of their logical thinking they understand what exactly is going on instead of getting scared away (Being a scientist has its own benefits!)

What makes researching haunted places even more difficult and dangerous are thieves and murderers who lurk in the shadows. Whenever someone says that there have been countless deaths at a place as it is haunted, they aren't completely wrong. Its the hooligans who make the place haunted and not the ghosts themselves.

"TIP : When visiting creepy places, beware of local people, as humans are more scary than ghosts!"

Moreover most people themselves believe that Evil Spirits do not have a shape, size or form. and are 'massless'. As soon as they accept this the discussion is ended. As science does not believe in researching about things that are massless and illogical. This is exactly why most scientists turn their back towards paranormal activities and regard it as 'Pseudoscience' which means false/fraudulent topic.

So let's ask ourselves "Is it we who are afraid of spooky stuff, or are the ghosts afraid of proving their existence to humans?"

P.S. - If you are a ghost please do not get offended, let's be friends instead.

The Case for Free Will (Part 1)

Classical physics states that everything that happened in the past can be exactly know and everything in the future can be exactly predicted, provided you know the position and momentum of every single particle in the universe. Sure that's an absurd demand, a single droplet of water has number of particles of the order 10^23 which is incomprehensibly huge to just think about let alone measure.  A small water droplet has more molecules than the number of grains of sand on earth! But philosophical consequences of determinism in classical physics do not concern with practicality. The fact that once things are set in motion, everything from the time universe was born, stars forming and exploding, dinosaurs going extinct, what you'll eat for breakfast tomorrow or do anything for that matter- can be exactly calculated using Newton's laws of motion. From Big bang to Breakfast, everything can be in-principle predicted exactly in classical physics. [Image by GPT 5.2] A deterministic...

Chaos, Dimensionality and Free Will (Part 2)

Edward Lorenz in 1961 wrote down a set of three coupled non-linear differential equations to model the atmosphere. The belief at the time was that once you write down a set of differential equations then provided initial conditions you can always exactly find the parameters of the system at any point in time however long afterwards. Small errors shouldn't deviate you much from the true results. [ The Lorenz system ] But to Lorenz's surprise, small changes in the initial conditions cascaded into huge differences in the outcome of the simulations. Resulting in a butterfly like pattern, which he termed a strange attractor -  Lorenz Butterfly - Bounded and Finite, yet unpredictable. The trajectories neither stabilize nor diverge to infinity, they strangely orbit a finite region without any specific periodicity. The term 'Butterfly Effect' comes from here- small changes leading to huge outcomes. This had huge consequences not just mathematically but physically too. The diffe...

Physics - A Fun Subject or a Boring One?

Since the birth of mankind, Physics has always been an interesting subject. But if its that interesting, why most people/students do not prefer studying it or opting research in physics as a career? Today in this blog we are going to address the same. As you might know that physics is a branch of science that not only deals with the behavior of objects in our surroundings, but it also tries to explain how distant celestial bodies like stars and galaxies function. Students in the early years of their education are taught intuitive physics which is easy to visualize and apply in their daily life. But as education progresses, less intuitive and harder to visualize concepts are taught which need equations and mathematical skills to understand and interpret them.  We begin to realize that our beloved physics which talked about cool stars and galaxies was just Math after all. When this realization kicks in, most of the people begin to find physics a boring subject which has tougher math ...
